Performance Assessment of Distributed SAN Systems

The construction of distributed, scalable, high-performance systems for data computing (commonly called GRIDs) remains in the focus of many research projects. The base building blocks of such infrastructures are the high performance computing centers and connecting them broadband optical networks. However, the major problem in integrating of these elements lies in the fact, that HPCs use various data transmission technologies, not always applicable in NREN's optical backbone. This article discuss the use of novel solutions for integration of SAN technologies with IP networks and shows results of Fibre Channel performance measurements in Polish NREN PIONIER.
