Higher Education Networks: The State of the Practice Today and Tomorrow's Challenges

Presented are findings from the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research study of the state of IT networking in higher education. It is based on survey responses from 517 chief information officers and network directors, qualitative interviews, and three case studies.

The study establishes a baseline for higher education networking – where things stand today and how they are evolving. It illustrates current network management practices; opportunities for connectivity to external networks; the institutional context of IT networking organization, leadership, and management; and current and emerging technologies and converged networks. Lastly it discusses future trends and challenges.
