Bandwidth Reservation for User Work (BRUW)

The Bandwidth Reservation for User Work (BRUW) project is a part of Internet2’s Hybrid Optical and Packet Infrastructure (HOPI) project that will allow authorized users to reserve bandwidth across the Abilene backbone network with minimal human intervention in the process to support advanced applications and research. When the initial testing implementation on Abilene succeeds, the next goal is to integrate the system with other networks such as CA*net4 or SURFnet. This paper discusses the development of the BRUW system, what was achieved, and which questions remain to explore further.
