Rules for registration of names under the .eu TLD

The «.eu« will be a new Top Level Domain. It will not replace the existing national ccTLDs in the EU, but will complement them. Following a call for expressions of interest the Commission chose in 2003 EURid, a consortium of several national registries, to be the .eu Registry. This was followed up by EC Regulation 874/2004, which provides the public policy rules about the registration under .eu. This paper will provide an overview of the registration rules and about the sunrise period which will allow owners of »prior rights« to register their names as domain names before other eligible parties.
